The consistent development and improvement of strawberry cultivars is a key component of supporting and growing the world-wide strawberry industry. Luckily for us, the development of strawberry cultivars has a long history of success in California.
It all started at the University of California, Davis. Over the last century the strawberry research program has become a model for cultivar development all over the world. Doug Shaw and Kirk Larson, recently retired UC Davis professors, have been providing their expertise and guidance in training the next generation team of strawberry cultivar developers and researchers at California Berry Cultivars.
While at UC Davis, Doug Shaw and Kirk Larson oversaw the development of some of the world’s most popular cultivars including Camarosa, Albion, Monterey, and the more recent Fronteras and Cabrillo.
Today, along with recently hired Director of Research and Development, Kyle VandenLangenberg, Doug and Kirk continue their work of supporting the world-wide strawberry industry through the development of superior cultivars at California Berry Cultivars.
