California Berry Cultivars was formed in 2014 as a collaborative effort between stakeholders in the strawberry industry including:

  • The California Giant team collectively possesses hundreds of years of experience in the berry industry and have operations in several regions around the world including California, Canada, Mexico, and South America.

    This fully integrated, family owned and operated berry company has interests in land, growing, cooling and processing operations, nursery operations, and harvest and post-harvest technologies.

  • Daren Gee is a successful grower in the Santa Maria, California area. He has a long history of cooperating with plant breeders in the furtherance of advanced cultivar development and is well-positioned to support California Berry Cultivars in our future grower-tester needs.

  • Another long time tester and advocate of the California Berry Cultivar program, Rod Koda is a third generation strawberry farmer who runs Shinta Kawahara, a 27-acre family farm in Watsonville, California.

  • International marketing firm that specializes in promoting, protecting and marketing valuable produce cultivars in representation of the patent holders.

  • Western Berries is a collection of some of the best strawberry companies in Southern California, led by some of the most forward-thinking people in the industry.
